My grandfather fought in WWI, and my grandmother used to talk about Meatless Mondays and Heatless Thursdays. The theaters would offer cut-rate prices and everyone went to the movies and a bit of vaudeville to keep warm.

Love those posters!

Just beautiful. I don't remember seeing Coffin's work before, at least identified.
Pre-Raphaelite Jeanne d'arc? We need some more colour in this house, and I've been looking for something I like that's not modern. Thanks for these.

I met a grand patriot this past weekend when I went to clean my step-dad's headstone (Korean War vet). There she was putting flags on all the veteran headstones. She is 92, spends her own money on the flags (cotton, no plastic) to honor her 1st husband who died in 1947. She has been doing this every Memorial Day weekend since 1947. And here I thought I was a good citizen by cleaning WWI and WWII headstones near my step-dad's.....
