Happy Minnie! My sister bought a lovely Irish throw in the Wicklow Mountains. Only time it came out, the Maine Coon boy went bonkers kneading and sucking on it. It has not reappeared since. Perhaps it should!
Unsophisticated north of the border version: squidgy toes. My mum called it kneading dough. I've seen big cats do all kinds of things house cats do. Wonder if they do this, too?

I can almost hear that cat purring! So cozy! I suppose as long as you don't try to take it away, it'll be safe.
Good thing your big boy's a softie.

We call the massaging "making biscuits."
A German friend of mine used to call it the milk dance (Milchtanz).
Sam, I have to say that this stole suffers constant cat abuse but is untouched (unless you count the copious amounts of cat fur I have to brush off).
