Vintage Advertising - Palmolive Soap

From the Woman's Home Companion, sometime in 1921.The costume in the lower right hand corner is...interesting.

That is some ad! There was a fab in the late Victorian age, and again in the 20s, for all things Turkish. Harem pants, billowing drapes. Authenticity was questionable, but what the heck!

Remember this is when King Tut's tomb was found. All things even the slightest Egyptian in styling was the rage!

Valentino starred in The Sheik in 1921 (my grandmother's crush.) Then there was Lawrence of Arabia's fame. Middle Eastern décor was definitely the "in" thing. There's even a line of china with camels and Bedouins riding in the desert made by Royal Doulton. I guess it was like all things space age in the 60s, but more exotic.
