A lady in our family borrowed her brother's bathing suit - I suppose hers had a hole in the knee - and gaily dashed into the water. She splashed back out to discover a man's suit top didn't cover *quite* as much as a lady's. This was obviously looong before my time, but it was a story worth the retelling.

And the lady's suit in the ad is nice, much better than the skimpy ones of today.
On the other hand, the jersey fabrics used in the 1930s would have left NOTHING to the imagination once they were wet.
