Have you ever stopped to ponder the amount of blood spilt, the volume of tears shed, the degree of pain and anguish endured, the number of noble men and women lost in battle so that we as individuals might have a say in governing our country? ~ Richelle Goodrich

so many thoughts go off with that - people who don't because it's "hard", people who want to take that away, etc. thank you for the reminder.
my MIL, a WAC in the Korean War (didn't see combat but married a Marine who did) used to have some darn salty things to say about the subject before she died.
she would be so salty now-a-days, i'm sure she'd desiccate the immediate vicinity.
First time I ever voted, it was in an old lady's front parlour, back when the local party gave a tiny bit of patronage to the faithful who were in need of the small amount paid for letting their property to be used as a polling station. Up on the wall, on the faded wallpaper was a large portrait of a young man in in uniform in an oval wood frame with bubble glass cover, lovingly kept in it's place of honour all the years since WWI. Made me think about the consequences of my vote: who would likely take us to war given the opportunity, and who wouldn't.
And people still can't bother to go vote.
