I don't think the spousal unit's relationship with my mother ever recovered from her expectation that he would sit down and help polish several acres of silver.
This was after she decided to throw us an entirely unwanted and unwelcome wedding reception.
Polishing the silver was my Saturday morning job when I was a kid. Not acres of it, but enough to get me properly grimy. That and cleaning the bird's cage. Much better than dusting as dusting is never really done when you have critters. I'm sure Brian had things other than polishing silver on his mind.

"Peer pressure from dead people" sums up nicely the problem I have deciding exactly what to do with what I call ancestor china.
Ah, yes. The ancestral china. I also have ancestral sterling. Three daughters, a service for 24, and no place to put the danged stuff!
The dreaded ancestral china - I got a Victorian service for 12. All 197 pieces in 14 boxes....
