I've just downloaded A Journal of The Plague Year from Project Gutenberg.

My great-grandmother was a nurse in India during a plague outbreak. I wonder what she would have thought of all this... Certainly, we have better medical options.

my parents grew up in appalachia during polio, during deaths from measles, whooping cough, diptheria, cholera, because it took longer for medicines and vaccines to get back into the hills and hollers. they knew there were better medical options and had us all vaccinated after watching so many of their peers crippled or die. my dad just shakes his head at the people already (!) saying they will not (!) get a vaccine for covid, and have already (!) refused to vaccinate their children for the childhood diseases that are making a comeback. so many better medical options, but not all are willing to take them.
grrr. dipwads.

If it only affected THEM, that would not be a problem. Selfish gits.

My mother was bon in 1921, and had diphtheria, whooping cough, and scarlet fever, all before she was ten. You better believe my sister and I got every vaccine that came along, and so did our own children. I got my first polio shot when I was in high school - that was *another* illness my mom had when she was growing up.

Your mother is one tough woman, Lady Anne. I used to live near an old cemetery where there were small headstones placed on the adult graves listing the children who died before them. I think every antivaxxer should be required to visit one of those old burial grounds and read those headstones.I have everything vaccination going, including Hep A & B and a booster so I shouldn't get shingles. I get the flu shot every year. Once they have one for Covid-19, I'll line up for it. Normally, the local drug store chain has a nurse or young doctor doing the annual flu shots there for free as the government figured out it's cheaper to vaccine us all up front than cure us later. I'm hoping they do the same with the Covid-19 shot(s.)
