We had an Old English sheep dog - think Nana from Peter Pan - who was a devout coward. She looked very light and fluffy (even if she was fairly big) and always seems to be floating when she walked. People would stop to admire her, and she would try to hide behind us. They'd walk around to see her, and she back up some more, until we were completely trussed up!

Try a Spanish Water Dog that stands and barks at anything that moves - might be friend or it might be foe! They don't do the boulder move.
