From the Ladies' Own Paper, March 30th, 1872, what purports to be a ladies' necktie but I don't see how. Certainly it would make an unusual bookmark, and not too difficult if you have mastered the art of climbing out of a ring. Left-click to enlarge.

Wrapped into a loose bow = necktie. Going to try this pattern.
Photos, please! We'd love to see it.
Yeah, no...the one thing my grandma tried to teach me and I couldn't pick up, lol. Knitting, crocheting and sewing, no problem. Cooking, a breeze (excepting gravy, to my Southern shame). But tatting was Greek to me and I had clumsy fingers when I tried it. (I played the flute and they weren't.)
Mamafrog - tatting is like learning to drive a stick shift. Practice - my grandma told me to practice 15 min. every day for a month to teach your fingers what to do. This really is a craft one needs a good teacher for. And get used to making lovely knots. After decades, I still do.
