Good question. My answer: perish and be ultimately be forced to have a connection.

PS "and be" was supposed to be "or"

What's sad? We have many wild spaces left, but our kids are so limited in what they're allowed to enjoy.

I'm glad I live in a small town. The kids here can still throw themselves off the railroad bridge and climb trees and ride their bikes at breakneck speed down the bluffs into the Mackinaw and no one calls DCFS.

"Yes" to your first paragraph. We also live in a small town miles from any other town. One would think that it would be safe for children to explore, hike, fish alone, etc. No so. Too many strangers, too much drug trafficking, too many meth manufacturing places, too many pot plantations. Our once safe haven has become a safe place for the bad guys.
