Mad About The Boys

Thing 1 and Thing 2 are required, as part of their Americorps service, to develop and implement a community outreach project. They came up with a very interesting and ambitious idea, and even went so far as to submit a proposal to present it at the state public health summit this summer.

Their abstract was accepted. I am so dadgummed proud.

See, that English teacher is back. Clearly your influnce and grasp of grammer aided in the acceptance. But what was the proposal?

They are going to do an in-depth survey on county emergency preparedness and then create an outreach/education campaign to raise public awareness of the need for individual and family readiness.

Did you know that 44% of the people who were trapped in NO after Katrina waited ten days before help got to them?

Sad to say I did know that fact. made me livid that a) those people did not have emergency prep training or a list of supplies to have b)the idea that anyone "can ride out a hurricane" safely and c) the Prez's horrendous and callous treatment of NO. As someone who lives in CT, we are always going over prep for ice storms and hurricanes here.

I knew that, but I am also weird. I can live in my house for a couple of weeks with food/water and be ok.

Has more to do with a Zombie group and the coming apocalypse than real emergencies tho. (While a serious statement, the group is just for fun for me, but the survivalist aspect of the group makes you think and act).
