This looks like a good learning project. I always look for lace patterns with few or no purls.

Thanks for the additional link, especially with the nice large photos! I do thread crochet, mostly doilies. I learned to knit about 5 years ago. My goal was to knit lace but I'm still making dishcloths, which are fun and relaxing.
