Workbasket Magazine - September, 1944 (maybe)

Another issue of Workbasket from the Antique Pattern Library.  Again, if my arithmetic is correct, Volume 9 is September.

Projects include a crocheted apron, "shoulderette," several knitted edgings, a tatting lesson, and the quilt pattern 54-40 or Fight.

In typical Canadian fashion, it's taken a modern artist at Red Fish Quilts to make a 49th parallel quilt. That's the only reference for anything of a push back to 54:40 I could find.
But, we did build a transcontinental railroad. Does that count? One day, better be sooner than later, I'm going to make the other half a wandering man quilt.

P.S. That's a lot prettier than the common crocheted apron pattern I've had for years. Also, it's string weight with a gauge that someone whose eyesight isn't young and bright could handle. So tempting. You really do find the gems.

Actually, September is volume 12. Number 9 is June. The Workbasket (Aunt Martha's Workbasket at that time) had its first issue in October. See http://www.antiquepatternlibrary.org/html/warm/workbasket.htm for the current state of re-publication.

Best wishes,
