Welcome, Little Stranger

Funnyface is getting a baby sister. Because somebody who shall not be identified is on a Norse kick, we are looking at names like Joro and Nisse.

(Nisse falls more pleasingly off the tongue, but it means troll, unfortunately).

Hel is out of the question, we live across the street from a Catholic church and rectory, and I am not standing on the back step shouting "Hel!" with Father Carl around.

Any Norwegians out there with suggestions?

LOL! Congratulations to the family!

There's always Loki!

Spousal unit has rejected Loki as it is a boy name.

(I know. I know).

Thor, perhaps? I read a news story about an octopus named Thor who was really clever and funny (octopi are, you know - they are amazing creatures, can you tell that I love them?) and since then I have liked that name...

That is funny aout the name Hel, lol!

And congrats to you all, photos later please I hope!

I like "nissse" - nisser (danish, plural) are nicer than trolls! see the wikipedia entry

How are the Drama Queen and Reserve Cat going to feel about this? Have they been consulted?

I can never name an animal until I'm with it. Then I just try to keep my mind open and start repeating out loud whatever names or words that come into my head. They let you know when you've found the right one. My other theory about naming is that you should try to choose a name that reflects what you want the dog (or cat) (or horse or whatever) to be.

Find a Norwegian dictionary on line and start looking up words for--I don't know what qualities you want in your new baby--friend, or warrior, or happiness--whatever--and see if you can do anything with them. That's how Taenzer got her name; I consulted a friend who speaks German. Technically it should be Taenzerin, but Taenzer worked better as a call name. (It means "dancer.")

Who's the breeder?

The Drama Queen is going to be furious.

I think Reserve Cat will be happy that there is someone in the house he can beat up....at least until she starts to grow.
