Have you ever seen the documentary on the John McGlinn recording of Showboat? He restored a bunch of music that got taken out during the out-of-town try-outs. GREAT cast--the late Jerry Hadley as Ravenal, Frederica von Stade as Magnolia, Teresa Stratas as Julie--you should hear the ensemble of "Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man." Plus, in the documentary, comments from (I think) Hamerstein's son and a Broadway historian whose name I can't recall at the moment. Superb version.
