UPDATE:  It looks like where I stayed last spring has 26 feet of water....

Because they listened to the fool of a governer that insisted it wasn't about the water, it was about the wind and the people of Houston shouldn't evacuate even though they were told too.

There aren't words to define how awful this is.

We have relatives in Meadows Place. Things don't look too wonderful there, either. And more rain is forecast. Maybe we need to start looking for gopher wood?

And, of course, our noble leader has rescinded President Obama's order to put more money into flood prevention infrastructure.

I feel bad for Houston but wait until they find out how much of FEMA's budget was cut...Then the real pain will show up. And don't start me about the empty Mega Church who refused to shelter people.

And I have to correct my earlier statement, it was not the governer that told people not to worry. He told them to leave, it was the MAYOR of Houston who said it was no big deal. And now I'm seeing horrible pictures of dogs and other animals tied up and left to die while their owners got out of the area. Some days, I get so angry at god-awful stupid people who are just basically horrible human beings. It's bad enough we act like we do, but we treat defense animals worse than we treat each other, and that's pretty bad.

I imagine there's going to be a lot of finger pointing over the next few months.

I worked in Houston for a year in the 90's. I didn't keep in touch with the people I met there... but they're in my thoughts every day now.
I hope, I hope... I hope they aren't there.
